This is a simple and short process and also allows you to create you profile, as you may want others to see it.

Watch out for your friends
Friends are today no less than an extended family. So the first thing you may want to do is get in touch with your family and friends. Let’s see how we can achieve that…
Let’s say you have logged into your account and now you want to know who of your friends are already a part of Facebook, so you can immediately add them. This is as simple as searching for content over a search engine! All you need to do is, enter the name of your friend in the Search field in the left pane and click the magnifying glass icon. Facebook will now list all members who match the search criteria.
Add friends to your list
Once you have located your friend, adding them to your list is just a click away! Right next to your friend you can view a link saying Add as Friend. Click the link and you will receive a confirmation message asking if you want to add the selected person as your friend. Click the “Add Friend button”. Enter the code in the Security Check box. Click “Add Friend” and Congratulations ! You have your first friend added to your list !
So what do I do if I want to add a friend who is not a member of Facebook? The answer is simple, send an invite to your friend to join Facebook and after which you can add your friend to your list. To send an invite, click the “Friends” option at the top. On the right side, there is an option to invite your friend to join Facebook. Click the “Invite your friends” link. Enter your friend’s e-mail address in the To field. You can add multiple e-mail addresses, each separated by a comma. Enter any message you want to send your friend along with the invitation in the Message field. Click the “Invite” button to send the invitation. The invitation will be sent to your friend’s e-mail address. Your friend has the option accept the invitation and create a login to join Facebook, after which you can add your friend to your list.
What sets Facebook Apart?
Remember your childhood days, where you were scolded for scribbling on the home wall? Well, now with Facebook, you have a special wall designed especially for you to scribble as much as you desire! how’s that.
The Facebook wall is a place in each profile where friends can leave messages for you and others logging into your profile to view. Anyone who can view your profile can read the messages on your Wall. General messages and notes are posted on Walls while more personal messages are sent to the Inbox.
To scribble on your friend’s wall, select your friend from the friend’s list. You can now view your friend’s profile. Scroll down to the “The Wall” section and enter you message in the text area available. Once your message is complete, click the “Post” button. You can view all existing Wall posts right below the text area.
Make your friends feel special – Send “Gifts”
Today is my best friend’s birthday and it completely slipped of my mind. There’s no time to go to that gift shop as I’m caught up at my workplace, what do I do? Do you find yourself in such situations? Well, no more panicking! All you need to do is log on to Facebook and send you friend a gift without getting out of your workplace or home. Isn’t that cool? So then let see how exactly we can do this.
To send your friend a gift, go to your friend’s profile. Click the “Send <<friend name>> a Gift” link.
§ Select the gift you want to send your friend. On the right pane you can select the Free link under Item Filters to send a free gift to your friend.
§ Select your friend’s name in the Choose your recipient box.
§ Enter a message in the Add your message box.
§ You can also select a Method of delivery. Selecting Public will send the gift to your friend’s gift box and the Wall where everyone can view your gift and message along with your name. Selecting Private will send the gift only to your friend’s gift box, and others will only be able to view the gift, not your name and message. Selecting Anonymous will send the gift with the sender’s name as Anonymous. The gift will be sent only to your friend’s gift box, and others will only be able to view the gift, not your name and message. Even your friend will not be able to view your name as it will be displayed as Anonymous. However, your friend can view the message.
§ Click the “Continue” button to send the gift.
§ Click the “Send Gift” button.
Nudge your friend’s with “Pokes”
Facebook also has an unique feature called poke has attracted the attention of many. Poke is just a way of keeping in touch with your friends without writing any message. There is no strict definition of a poke and it can be interpreted by the sender and receiver in different ways. For example, for some it is just a way to say “I remember”, others consider it a friendly “nudge”, while still others consider it a way to express love or affection.
To poke your friend, click your friend’s name in the friend’s list. You can now view your friend’s profile. Click “Poke <<friend name>>.” You will receive a confirmation message.
Click the “Poke” button.
Chat is a feature everyone wants on any site they go… that’s because it helps in immediate communication. You do not need to wait for a response if your friend is online. Let’s use Facebook’s chat feature. It appears in the extreme right bottom of the screen.
Keep yourself updated – Check “Status”
Just like most chat applications provide a status feature to let the others know what you are doing, Facebook too provides a similar feature. By updating you status you can let your friends know about your location or what you are currently doing, or simple display a message or proverb you like. To view your friends’ status, click the Friends option and go to the Recently Updated tab.
After all the fun you had with Facebook, explore some more and get your hands on some other exciting features available that provide everything from e-mails and scraps, to photos and gifts. Facebook has also been in news, because of some controversies, like the most famous Connect U. Connect U is a social networking site that filed a case against the owner of Facebook, Zuckerberg, stating that he illegally used the source code they asked him to create for their website. The case was however dismissed due to lack of evidence. Connect U filed a second case against Facebook which is currently continuing.
Even after all the allegations, the number of users on Facebook continues to grow. As of today, Facebook is undoubtedly one of the fastest increasing and the most popular social networking site.
